Packing, Padding and Protecting Your Shipment
When it comes to protecting your shipment, planning and careful preparation are the key to success. Please consider the following guidelines to ensure the safety of your valuables. Packing your belongins for shipping overseas is much different than packing for a move across town. Your items need to be packaged for shipping, rather than moving. A good thing to keep in mind is that they will be handled and shifted many times. Package them as if you were checking them with your baggage at the airport.
- All packing materials and cartons should be new. Never reuse boxes as their strength has been compromised. Use rigid, double corrugated boxes with flaps intact.
- Purchase boxes designed for shi[pping. They are designed specifically for loading and unloading onto trucks and sturdier than regular boxes.
- Make sure boxes are strong enough to hold their contents. Shipping boxes have printed information on the bottom advising the amount of weight they can hold. Please ask your White Glove Express representative if you further assistance.
- Do not leave any room inside the box. If you can push down on the box, that means there is room for the contents to shift during transit. Items that shuffle during transit are more likely to incur damages.
- Use inner cushioning to fill all empty spaces.
- Wrap all items separately with adequate cushioning. You should not be able to hear contents moving inside the box.
- All china, glass and crystal should be individually wrapped prior to packing.
- Cartons must be taped across top, bottom, sides and seams.
- Use strong tape designed for moving. We reccommend that you use nylon reinforced packing tape.
- All rugs and carpets have to be rolled and wrapped.
- Customer name, should be marked on each carton.
- All items which are not suitable for packing need to be discussed prior to your move. These items include furniture items, large bulky pieces and large appliances. These items are paper padded as a standard and where items require additional protection the use of double wrapping and crating is involved. Proper padding requires the following steps: skeleton or full crates will be used on awkward or fragile pieces.
